Here is a basic map showing our route:
We will start out at Windhoek, which is where you see Namibia in the middle of the map on the left, and drive north to the Caprivi Strip.
The map below shows a closer view of the Caprivi Strip and our potential route east to Victoria Falls, which includes a short drive in Botswana. We may instead drive east along the southern part of the delta area - via Maun - then travel north to Victoria Falls and east through the Caprivi Strip.
From the Caprivi Strip we'll follow the red line on the map above, west to Etosha National Park, then south through the mountains of Damarland, and west to the Skeleton Coast and the seal colony at Cape Cross.
We'll stop to visit the coastal town of Swakopmund, then drive south to the red sand dunes of the Namib-Naukluft National Park.
Next we follow the blue line east and south to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park for a week exploring this part of the Kalahari Desert.
Finally we follow the mauve line north to Windhoek.
In all we expect to drive about 4000 km. We will travel by 4x4 because many of the park roads require this, and we'll camp.
Hopefully we'll find WIFI along the way so we can post some photos, and include some details too, so you can enjoy following our adventure!

Whitney Wanderings....
We are off on another adventure, something different from what we share with you via Whitney Winters, and Darwin Sound. This blog is about travels overland, not winter and not sailing....
Our new topic: an African safari!
Our new adventure begins in Cape Town, South Africa. En route to SV Darwin Sound we are taking a side trip of sorts, flying from London to Cape Town then up to Windhoek, Namibia. For about a month we'll go on safari, spending time around the Okavanga delta, Etosha, the Namib and the Kalahari desert.
We have reserved a 4x4 vehicle with "roof tents" so we can camp in remote locations, drive the the roads less-traveled, and enjoy the possibilities that independent travel allows.
I do hope you will enjoy traveling along with us on this unique adventure!
